Case Study: RACE RESULT Track Box Passive System & RACE RESULT 12 Software for MTB Enduro Events

This case study examines the application of the RACE RESULT Track Box Passive timing system and RACE RESULT 12 software at two MTB Enduro events organized by Rocky Trail Entertainment, a leading event organizer in Australia. Events utilized the traditional single-run format across four stages, while the other events employed a multi-run format across four stages, allowing riders multiple attempts on each. Rocky Trail purchased the RACE RESULT Track Box Passive system from Event Timing and they worked closely with their team to configure both the timing hardware and the RACE RESULT 12 software to meet the specific requirements of each event format.

Event Overview
Rocky Trail is renowned for organizing high-quality MTB events across diverse terrains.  This case study focuses on two of their Enduro events. The first event, held in the challenging terrain of the Victorian Alps, featured multiple stages and adhered to the traditional single-run format.  The second event, which was located in a more accessible location, comprised four stages and adopted a more casual multi-run format, where riders could complete stages multiple times, with their fastest time counting towards the overall result.

Timing System Setup
Each stage at both events was equipped with a Track Box Passive timing point at the start and finish lines. The units, weighing under 2kg, were easily transported to even the most remote stage locations. Their compact size and robust design made them ideal for the demanding environment of MTB Enduro racing.  The Track Box units' all-day battery life proved crucial for uninterrupted timing throughout both events.

Software Configuration
For the single-run event, RACE RESULT 12 was configured to record a single time for each rider at each stage. The software automatically calculated overall rankings based on the combined times.  For the multi-run event, the software was configured to allow for unlimited runs per stage. It was set to automatically identify and record the fastest time for each rider on each stage, which was then used to calculate the overall results. The real-time data from the Track Boxes, transmitted via the mobile network, provided live timing updates to the event organizers and spectators through the RACE RESULT 12 software.

Challenges and Solutions
One challenge in the multi-run format was managing the larger volume of timing data generated by multiple runs per rider. We utilised RACE RESULT 12's Advanced Results, filtering and sorting tools to efficiently analyze the data and ensure accurate results.  In the single-run event, the remote location of some stages presented a potential challenge for network connectivity.  However, the Track Box Passive system's reliable data transmission, combined with the strategic placement of network extenders, ensured consistent real-time updates.

Results and Analysis
The results from the single-run event demonstrated the system's ability to provide accurate and consistent timing across all stages. In the multi-run event, the data clearly showed how riders often improved their times with subsequent runs, highlighting the benefit of this format for rider development.  RACE RESULT 12 provided clear and concise results for both formats, including stage times, split times, and overall rankings.

Client Feedback
"With Event Timing as timing partner, Rocky Trail Entertainment has been able to constantly push the limits when it comes to timing new event formats. The hardware and software offers a huge range of flexibility and you can sense the passion of the team behind it with constant improvement of their software as well as a very good support structure." - Martin Wisata, Co-Founder, Rocky Trail Entertainment.

Conclusion
This case study demonstrates the versatility and effectiveness of the RACE RESULT Track Box Passive system and RACE RESULT 12 software for timing MTB Enduro events, regardless of the format.  The system's portability, robust design, and real-time data transmission capabilities make it ideal for the demanding conditions of MTB Enduro racing.  Combined with the powerful features of RACE RESULT 12, the system provides accurate and reliable timing data, enhancing the event experience for both organizers and participants.
